Custom Embroidery

Embroidery is the decoration process of sewing thread on fabric to create a design.
This technique is a great way to create a long lasting, high quality product with a logo, personalisation, or picture. Sewing a design on your garment will also create a unique texture and look. Below is a list of some of the most popular products used in custom embroidery:

  • hats

  • t-shirts, polos, sweatshirts

  • canvas bags and purses

  • towels and bathrobes

  • and many more

Custom embroidery can be done on numbers of locations on your garment. The most common location on shirts is the left chest. This is a great place for your business logo or personalisation. Other popular locations for embroidery include center front on t-shirts and hats, upper back on shirts and jackets, right or left sleeve, and back on hats. Be creative when deciding on a location for your custom embroidery! Custom embroidery has two main sewing techniques used for lettering and numbers: satin and step satin stitches. These two techniques create their own unique appearance and texture. Step satin is a weave of smaller stitches that fill an area and create a flat, tight design. Satin stitch embroidery is a row of single stitches that creates a sheen and clean finish.

Embroidery TechniquesTo take advantage of all the great embroidery services Broken Arrow has to offer you need to learn two main embroidery techniques. These two techniques are used when applying lettering or numbers to your garment. They create the same design, but bring different visual effects and textures to the design. The following information will help you choose the perfect embroidery for your garment.

Satin Stitch

A satin stitch gets its name from its sheen as it catches the light to reflect a soft, yet bright, color such as satin does.

A satin stitch is often used for lettering, 2” or smaller in height. This stitch produces a lower stitch count overall, is used on simple designs, and gives a smooth clean finish.

Step Satin Stitch

A step-satin stitch is useful when enlarging lettering or creating a large design that is 3” or bigger.

Step satin is made up of smaller stitches that fill a larger area, whereas satin stitches use one stitch to cover an entire area. When used on large designs or letters, this stitch eliminates the possibility of snags or allowing your design to be vulnerable to everyday wear.

Embroidered letters and numbers can be done with either of the above applicationsCustom embroidery now has special effects for even more creative options. There are two new techniques that create 3D visual effect. Layered embroidery creates a raised appearance by doubling the stitches used on a design. Puff embroidery uses a foam underlay to create even more of a 3D effect.

Custom 3D embroidery
Custom embroidery has two new innovative techniques that will add dimension to any design. These two different applications have similar effects, but use two different methods to achieve the desired effect. Go Large is excited to introduce Layered 3D embroidery and Puff 3D embroidery to our customers who are looking to add dimension to their custom embroidery design.

Layered 3D Embroidery

3D-embroidery-layered.jpg (9888 bytes)

Layered 3D embroidery is achieved by doubling the stitch count on a design. This makes the design thicker, and raises the design up and away from the garments surface. The layered 3-D effect allows you to have greater detail than the Puff, however, very detailed designs work best with standard embroidery.

This technique works best on thinner materials that are washed regularly, such as oxfords, polos, and sweatshirts. For subtle 3-D effects try our new custom layered 3D embroidery.

Puff 3D Embroidery

Puff 3D embroidery uses a foam underlining to achieve an extreme 3-Dimensional effect. The foam comes in different widths and colors to accommodate an array of products and thread colors. This application also requires the thread count to double, so that the foam is not exposed.
Puff 3D embroidery works best on block letters or large rounded shaped. Artwork for Puff should have rounded corners so that the needles perforate the corners and cover the foam completely. This application works best on thicker materials that are washed periodically, such as hats, bags, and thicker jackets. To really make your business name or logo stand out, use puff 3D embroidery.

Custom embroidery can be done with either of the above applications, as well as, our standard embroidery applications. Go Large is constantly testing innovative ways to embroider using special effect embroidery. Watch this website for the newest in custom embroidery.Custom embroidery has many applications to personalise your garment. Monogram lettering is where you use letters (usually your initials) in a triangle or diamond shape on a product. Appliqué, patches, emblems, and tackle twill are all process that use material to create a design instead of using just threads. Your custom embroidery design is the first step in creating your unique product. The design can be created by our artists or you can send us your own art file.
